Acorn ornaments are meant to look like giant acorns from an oak tree that have been turned into birdhouses. I generally use cherry, beech, birch, honey locust or ambrosia maple for the seed part of the acorn and black walnut or black walnut burl for the husk part. The perches are made out of exotic hardwoods including Macasser ebony, cocobolo, black palm and bocote. The final size of the ornament is about 2.5″ to 3″ in length and 1.25″ in diameter. The acorns are hollow so they weigh 1/2 to 3/4 of an ounce. The top two rows include acorn ornaments from this years batch of 20 new acorn ornaments.
