Acorn ornaments are meant to look like giant acorns from an oak tree that have been turned into birdhouses. We use locally available hardwoods including cherry, maple, beech, flame box elder, catalpa, birch, mulberry and honeylocust for the seed part of the acorn and black walnut or black walnut burl for the husk part. The perches are made out of exotic hardwoods including Brazilian cherry, cocobolo, goncalo alves and bocote. The final size of the ornament is about 2.5″ to 3″ in length and 1.25″ in diameter. The acorns are hollow so they weigh 1/2 to 3/4 of an ounce. The acorns shown below are typical examples of the 40 ornaments we currently have on hand.
