These colored inside-out ornaments are made from Spectraply, a laminated wood product made from dyed beech veneer by Cousineau Wood Products. The name “inside-out ornaments” is based upon the method used to make this ornament. The starting material for each ornament was 4 pieces of Spectraply that were 6″ x 3/4″ x 3/4″ inch. The four pieces were glued together at the ends with Superglue. After turning an initial cove shape, which will be the inside of the final ornament, the bundle of parts are separated and each part is rotated 180 degrees before the ends are glued together again. The outside is then shaped to obtain the final ornament. The different patterns of colored wood on the ornaments were achieved by cutting the Spectraply at either a 45 degree or a 90 degree angle relative to the orientation of the veneer layers.
